Chicago, IL: Match Corp. of America, 1950s. Three matchbook covers featuring pinup art of notable models and entertainers of the era, pre 1970s truck-stop supplies and easy advertising for local businesses, mainly gas stations, bars, restaurants, night clubs and other tourist attractions. Presumably these were distributed by mail-order companies specializing in adult novelties, magazines, paperbacks, VHS, etc., and the connections can be made by indexing the local business advertised opposite full-color pinup photos. Those w/ photos on both flaps seem to be scarce. Featured here is burlesque/striptease artist Lili St. Cyr (Minsky's Rialto Burlesque, Chicago), popular 1950s pinup model & fitness advocate Shirley Kilpatrick (Paul's Texaco Service, Columbus, OH), & another 1950s pinup model Iris Bristol (Paul's Texaco Service, Columbus, OH), w/ publisher city changed to Cincinnati on one. All are w/o matches, two w/ striking surface trimmed, thus slightly smaller. 1.5 x 4 inches (Minsky's), 1.5 x 3.75 inches (Paul's). Light rubbing overall, else Near Fine. [Book ID 127048]
