Description

This is an example of the Genuine 1960s- 1970s BLACK PLASTIC "ZULU-LULU" swizzle sticks, made in Hong-Kong, still attached to the original display card.

Note there are 3 different versions of this unusual bar accessory:

1. The genuine original USA-made black plastic on a poor quality cardboard. It is not imprinted with a country of origin, hence it's American made. This version uses staples to secure each swizzle stick to the cardboard panel. These are not this version

2. These are a different version with dark brown plastic swizzle sticks, on a smoother cardboard. The swizzle sticks are held in place with twine. Also note this variation has the words "Made in Hong Kong" in the lower right hand corner of the panel. These were made in the 1960s and into the early 1970s. These are what we are selling on this listing.

3. In the 2000s a Chinese reproduction was made of these swizzle sticks. The pieces are held in place with a clear plastic cover glued onto the front of the cardboard. To use these sticks, one must cut the plastic cover to get them out. These also have the words "Made in China" on the lower right corner. NOTICE: We have seen examples from China that have been trimmed on the bottom, removing 1/4" or more along with the "Made in China" wording. The easiest way to spot these reproductions is the plastic is not black or dark brown, they are typically fake tortoise shell mottled light brown plastic.

When the original black plastic versions show up for sale, most are for sale for $50 and up, plus shipping.  The Hong-Kong versions are around $35 and up, with the cheap Chinese knock-offs selling for around $20 to $25. [Plus shipping!]

These 2 Hong-Kong versions are nearly mint, having only some minor wear as they are 50 to 60 years old! One has a hole from where it was hung on a post in the store. See photos for details.
