Description

This item is a rare and vintage WILLIAM HIGGINS publication titled HEALTHY HEAD #1 which features excerpts from the 1981 WILLIAM HIGGINS film "THE BOYS OF SAN FRANCISCO" starring STEVE WEST and TIM NOLTY. The film also stars TRAVIS WILLIAMS, JEREMY SCOTT and TROY RICHARDS and co stars Steven Richards, David Ross, Tony Starr, Skip Lewis, Ben Barker, Steve York, Brad Schneider, Jaime La Coste, Andy Hathaway, Pieter Adler, Jeff Byron and Todd Keith. This magazine was personally photographed by William Higgins. This magazine was produced in 1981 using heavy stock paper. It is oversized at 8-1/2” x 11”. It is still in UNREAD condition but cover shows minor wear from storage. This item is DEADSTOCK and the original distributor never sold it; it has been in storage for over 40 years.

"In the evening Jeremy is walking around the Castro. In passing he mets Steve who is on his way to work at the health store. Steve asks Tim Nolby to get something ready for a customer but Tim says it will take a half hour to get ready. Instead of waiting Steve starts seducing his coworker as the customer waits. Cocks become stiff with the thought of each others' hungry mouths on their hot, stiff tools. The muscled clerk then plows his coworker in every imaginable position and both let loose with their steaming loads. The scene ends with a kiss. Publicity shots show this duo on front of refrigerator display cases that don't show up in the film but they are included in this magazine."

Anyone familiar with gay porn during the late 70s and early 80s will immediately recognize the phrase "In the William Higgins Tradition..."

While it doesn't really mean anything, it does sound marvelously grand. His films codified the "California aesthetic--called the "William Higgins tradition" in promotional box covers--of slender twinks, generally blond young men in the outdoors, hiking, surfing the Pacific Coast Highway, at rodeos, or on the beach. He launched the careers of a whole new generation of major porn stars in the 1980's--among them Kip Noll ( also know as Kip Knoll ), Leo Ford, Lance. J. W. King, Jon King, Derrick Stanton, John Davenport, Jeff Quinn, and Kevin Williams.

Gay men have always fetishized masculinity and seen straight guys as real guys. A large percentage of gay men see heterosexual men as more masculine than gay men. According to Higgins, gay men want to see straight guys but imagine them as gay, which is partly why 90 percent of the men he uses in his films are heterosexuals, or at least "that's what they like to call themselves. Higgins also likes to recruit men who have typically never done porn or had sex with men before and market their inexperience as an asset, not a drawback. To this day, he enjoys filming the first-timers, especially if they don't really like it. He zooms in on their faces clenched in pain. It makes it real, Higgins says."
